Chapter 23: The Visit

Six months later, I went to visit Andrew in prison.
I didn't know why.
Maybe I needed closure.
Maybe I needed to see him one last time.
He sat across from me in the visiting room.
He looked older.
Tired.
"Mariana."
"Andrew."
"You came."
"I did."
"Why?"
"Because I wanted to say something."
He leaned forward.
"What?"
"I forgive you."
Andrew blinked.
"What?"
"I forgive you. Not because you deserve it. But because I need to move on."
"I don't understand."
"I know you don't. But I'm not going to explain it. I just wanted you to know."
I stood up.
"Goodbye, Andrew."
"Wait—"
"I hope you find peace. I really do."
I walked out.
