Chapter 23: The Visit

Six months later, I went to visit Andrew in prison.

I didn't know why.

Maybe I needed closure.

Maybe I needed to see him one last time.

He sat across from me in the visiting room.

He looked older.

Tired.

"Mariana."

"Andrew."

"You came."

"I did."

"Why?"

"Because I wanted to say something."

He leaned forward.

"What?"

"I forgive you."

Andrew blinked.

"What?"

"I forgive you. Not because you deserve it. But because I need to move on."

"I don't understand."

"I know you don't. But I'm not going to explain it. I just wanted you to know."

I stood up.

"Goodbye, Andrew."

"Wait—"

"I hope you find peace. I really do."

I walked out.

May you like

I didn't look back.

And this time, I felt nothing.
