CHAPTER 20: THE PEACE

Ten years after my eighteenth birthday, I stood on the porch of my lake house, watching the sunset.

The house was beautiful. I had restored it completely. The porches were new. The dock had been rebuilt. The gardens were blooming.

It was everything I had ever wanted.

And it was mine.

I thought about my journey. The pain. The loss. The fight.

I thought about my mother. In prison. Changing. Or not.

I thought about my father. Rebuilding his life. Finding peace.

I thought about Grant. Vanished. Maybe gone forever.

And I thought about myself.

I had survived. I had thrived. I had built a life from nothing.

I had won.

I took a sip of my tea and smiled.

The sun dipped below the horizon.

And I felt at peace.

Finally.

Truly.

Completely.

May you like

For the first time in my life.

THE END
