Chapter 17 - The Vault Beneath Zurich

The Helvetia evidence survived because we had refused to destroy the power bus.

The archived records contained decades of transfers, bribes, shell companies, violent orders, false medical identities, and manipulated trusts.

Swiss and American investigators seized copies before anyone could bury them again.

Adrian Mercer and three senior Mercer executives were arrested.

Isabella underwent emergency surgery and survived.

Noah stayed beside her until she woke.

Luca waited in the hospital corridor rather than forcing himself into the boy's grief.

Hours later, Noah came out.

"She wants to see you," he told Luca.

Luca stood.

Noah stopped him.

"I don't forgive you."

Luca nodded.

"I know."

"But Mom says you really didn't know."

"I didn't."

Noah looked at him for a long time.

"Then maybe you can start knowing now."

Luca's eyes filled.

He did not touch the boy.

He simply said yes.

That was the first honest beginning either of them had been given.

Victor surrendered voluntarily after the Zurich crisis.

He agreed to cooperate with investigators and admitted to financial crimes, obstruction, illegal surveillance, and years of decisions made to preserve Vale control.

He still denied ordering Luca's murder.

The evidence supported him on that point.

Mercer had turned Victor's arrogance into a weapon, but Victor had created the conditions that made the weapon possible.
