Chapter 7 - THE HIDDEN ROOM

My property manager admitted letting Peter inside once because Peter claimed to represent the previous owner’s family.
I fired him.
The previous owner was Dr. Samuel Bell, a retired pediatric surgeon.
Brooke found scratches behind a library bookcase.
Behind it was a locked narrow door.
Oliver found the key taped beneath an old desk while chasing a toy truck.
Inside were boxes of children’s medical files.
Margaret opened one.
Her face changed.
It contained a photograph of me at six years old in a hospital bed beside Dr. Bell.
“You were sick,” she said.
“With what?”
“A heart complication.”
“I don’t have one.”
“Not anymore.”
Ryan found a consent form mentioning a donor family.
Before Margaret could explain, a voice came from the hallway.
Peter Lang stood in the doorway.
“That’s why I’m here.”

Nobody had heard him enter.
