Chapter 14 - RYAN STAYS

Police surrounded the mansion.
Natalie had escaped with the twins and Margaret.
Ryan stayed because Vivian was still inside.
Aaron demanded trust documents.
I could not legally transfer the trust money to him.
He did not care.
Hours passed.
At 3:12 a.m., Vivian came outside crying.
“Ryan made me leave.”
“Where is he?”
“Inside.”
Aaron had agreed to release only one hostage.
Ryan chose his mother.
Again.
But this time he chose her life, not her side.
A gunshot sounded.
Police stormed the house.
Aaron came out in cuffs.
Ryan walked out afterward with blood on his shirt.
“Are you shot?”
“No.”
He had stopped Aaron from turning the gun on himself.
“I know this doesn’t fix us,” Ryan said.
“No.”
“I know.”
Inside the old piano, police found Bell’s trust documents.
Beside them was a sealed letter.
For me.
Written twelve years before I bought the house.
