Chapter 13 - THE TRUST

Bell had tracked children with rare medical markers to improve transplant matching.

His methods were ethically ugly.

His medical goal was real.

Peter had turned fragments of that history into a darker theory after Jamie’s death.

Aaron Pike had turned Peter’s grief into something more practical.

Money.

Peter told me from jail that Bell had created an eighteen-million-dollar charitable trust.

It was intended to support medically fragile foster children.

The trust had an unusual condition.

Ten years after Bell’s death, the legal owner of his former mansion gained approval authority over distributions.

I owned the mansion.

Aaron believed I could give him access.

Then Natalie called.

A man was inside the house.

Ryan’s voice came onto the line.

“Claire, don’t come home.”

Aaron spoke behind him.

“Tell your wife to bring the Bell documents.”

Then something struck Ryan.

May you like

The call ended.
