Chapter 12 - MY FATHER’S SECRET

The court hearing was scheduled for noon.

Before it began, Dad finally told me his secret.

Twenty-six years earlier, Laurent Heritage nearly collapsed.

My grandfather had borrowed heavily.

Adrian wanted to sell the resort land.

Dad refused.

They fought.

Grandfather sided with Dad.

Adrian never forgave him.

Then Dad admitted something worse.

“I changed the trust.”

I stared.

“What?”

“After your grandfather died.”

He had strengthened my future control without telling Adrian.

Legally.

But secretly.

“Why me?”

“Because you were twenty-two and the only person in the family who asked what happened to the housekeepers if we sold.”

I looked away.

That memory hurt.

Dad continued.

“Adrian believes I stole his inheritance.”

“Did you?”

He took a long time.

“Not legally.”

Not the answer I wanted.

Adrian had spent decades believing the empire should have been his.

Julian was his way back in.

Then Miriam entered with another discovery.

Julian had scheduled a private sale of the Costa Verde Resort.

Closing time.

6:00 a.m. the next morning.

Buyer.

A shell company tied to Adrian.

Price.

Less than half market value.

If the sale closed, they would claim ownership through years of litigation.

Except one problem.

Costa Verde’s hotel building belonged to Vale Hospitality.

The beach, access road, utilities, marina, and every inch beneath it belonged to Laurent Heritage.
