Chapter 6 - The Arrival of the Storm

Suddenly...
The ballroom doors swung open.
The heavy sound echoed through the room.
Several measured footsteps followed.
Four security guards in black suits entered first.
Walking calmly between them was Charles Whitmore.
Silver-haired.
Impeccably dressed in a dark three-piece suit.
The kind of man whose mere presence silenced powerful people.
He stopped just inside the ballroom.
His eyes slowly surveyed the room.
Broken glass.
Orange juice across the marble.
Celeste's stained gown.
Daniel standing over Nora.
Then...
He saw Lucy's bloodied mouth as Nora held her tightly on the floor.
Something changed.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
His face simply became very, very calm.
The kind of calm that comes just before devastation.
Daniel's color disappeared.
Charles took one deliberate step forward.
His security team followed without a word.
When he finally spoke, his voice was quiet enough that the entire ballroom instinctively fell silent.
"Who..."
"...laid a hand on my daughter..."
"...and my granddaughter?"
Nora held Lucy even tighter.
Daniel instinctively stepped backward.

For the first time that evening...
Fear appeared in his eyes.
