Chapter 3 - The Broken Vow

Celeste stumbled backward into a nearby wine table.
Crystal stemware crashed onto the floor.
A bottle rolled across the linen before smashing against the marble.
Regaining her balance, Celeste stared at Nora in disbelief.
"You pushed me!"
"You slapped a five-year-old!"
"She ruined my dress!"
"She's bleeding!"
Nora immediately turned back toward Lucy.
She had barely taken two steps when someone grabbed her wrist.
Daniel.
His grip tightened painfully around her arm.
She looked at her husband in disbelief.
Still dressed in an immaculate black tuxedo, Daniel stood between Nora and Celeste.
He hadn't checked on Lucy.
He hadn't looked at the blood.
He hadn't even glanced at the tiny tooth lying on the floor.
Instead...
He was shielding Celeste.
"Daniel."
"Let go."
"You assaulted her," he said coldly.
Nora stared at him.
"Our little girl is hurt."
"You embarrassed me in front of everyone who matters."
Behind him, Lucy sobbed.
"Mommy..."
Nora struggled to pull away.
Daniel only squeezed harder.
"I said let go."
May you like
Without warning, he shoved her.
Hard.
