Chapter 14 - A Clean Slate

Two months later.
The quiet coastal town of St. Andrews sat beneath a bright, clear blue sky.
A gentle ocean breeze swept through the gardens of a cozy white cottage overlooking the bay.
Nora stood on the back porch, holding a warm mug of coffee, watching Lucy play on the lawn with a energetic golden retriever puppy.
Lucy’s smile had returned, bright and unburdened.
Her lip had healed completely, and her small gap where her tooth had been only added to her cheerful, innocent laughter.
The legal proceedings had concluded swiftly.
Stripped of his wealth, reputation, and corporate standing, Daniel had signed the full custody agreement and divorce settlement without a fight, unable to afford the massive legal fees required to challenge the Whitmore legal team.
He had left the city quietly, blacklisted from every major logistical firm in the country.
Celeste Arden’s family firm had been liquidated, their assets auctioned off to pay outstanding debts.
Charles stepped out onto the porch, wearing a comfortable sweater instead of his usual tailored suits.
He set a hand gently on Nora’s shoulder, looking out at his granddaughter playing in the sunshine.
"She looks happy," Charles said softly.
Nora smiled, leaning her head against her father’s arm.
"She is happy, Dad. We both are."
"Have you thought about what you want to do next?" he asked.
Nora took a slow, deep breath, feeling the cool ocean air fill her lungs.
"I’m going to open the art gallery I always talked about," Nora said, her voice filled with quiet confidence. "No more living in the shadows. No more making excuses."

Charles smiled, his eyes gleaming with pride.
"That sounds like a sky after a storm."
