Chapter 15 - The Summer Sky
Lucy ran up the porch steps, her small face flushed with excitement, holding a colorful wildflower she had picked from the garden.
"Look, Mommy!" Lucy cheered, holding the bloom up proudly. "It looks just like my dress from the party!"
Nora dropped to her knees, taking the flower and tucking it gently behind her daughter’s ear.
"It’s beautiful, sweetie," Nora said softly, gathering Lucy into a warm, tight embrace.
Lucy wrapped her little arms around Nora’s neck, leaning close to her ear.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, baby?"
"We don't have to be scared anymore, right?"
Nora pulled back slightly, looking into her daughter’s bright, innocent eyes.
She saw no fear there. Only trust. Only love.
"No, sweet girl," Nora promised, her voice firm and true. "We will never be scared again."
Lucy smiled, gave her mother a quick kiss on the cheek, and ran back down to the lawn to chase the puppy across the grass.
Nora stood up, looking out over the endless blue horizon where the ocean met the summer sky.
The pain of the past was gone, washed away like footprints on a sandy beach.
She had protected her child. She had reclaimed her life.
And as she watched her daughter’s laughter echo across the sunny coast, Nora knew that no storm would ever shatter their world again.
