CHAPTER 6: THE REVELATION
A week after the divorce was finalized, I received a letter.
It was from Daniel's mother, Margaret.
She had never liked me. She had always thought I was beneath her son. But now she was writing to me, begging for my mercy.
Sarah,
Please don't do this to my family. Daniel made a mistake. Megan made a mistake. But they're sorry. They'll never do it again. Please, give them another chance.
I read the letter and felt nothing.
No anger. No sadness. No guilt.
Just a quiet satisfaction.
I wrote back:
Margaret,
I gave Daniel six years of chances. I gave him my youth, my trust, my money. He repaid me by throwing hot coffee in my face and telling me to obey or leave.
I left.
And I'm never coming back.
I never heard from her again.
But I heard from Megan.
She was arrested for fraud two months later.
The news said she had been stealing from her employer, using the money to support her lavish lifestyle.
