CHAPTER 12: THE HEALING

It's been five years since I left Daniel.
I'm happy. I'm healthy. I'm free.
James and I have a beautiful life together. We travel, we laugh, we love.
I still have scars on my face.
But I don't hide them anymore.
They're part of my story.
They're proof that I survived.
Last month, I spoke at a conference in Chicago. There were hundreds of women there, all of them survivors.
I told them my story.
I told them about the coffee. The burns. The divorce. The healing.
I told them that it gets better.
And when I was done, the room erupted in applause.
Women came up to me, crying, hugging me, thanking me.
"You saved me," one woman said. "You made me believe I could do it too."
I hugged her back.
"No," I said. "You saved yourself. I just showed you that it was possible."
I walked out of that conference with a full heart.
May you like
Because I knew, in that moment, that I had found my purpose.
And that my legacy would live on.
