Chapter 3: True Worth

Sarah stared down at the man who had once been her husband, now kneeling on the marble floor crying.

“You humiliated me,” she said quietly. “You let her tear my clothes and call me a whore in front of strangers. All while I was paying your bills.”

Mark sobbed. “I was weak. Please, Sarah. For old times’ sake—”

Ryan stepped forward, voice firm. “There are no old times. You’re done. Your accounts are frozen. Your car is repossessed. And every company in this city now knows exactly who you are.”

Lena had already fled the state after the scandal went viral. Mark was left with nothing.

Six months later, Sarah’s divorce was finalized. She stood beside Ryan at a charity event, confident and glowing in a beautiful evening gown.

Mark was spotted outside the venue handing out flyers for a minimum-wage job, looking broken and unrecognizable.

Sarah didn’t feel joy in his downfall — only relief.

That night, Ryan pulled her close on the balcony overlooking the city. “Do you regret any of it?”

Sarah smiled softly and shook her head. “No. Because it led me to you. The man who actually sees my worth.”

Ryan kissed her forehead. “You never needed me to prove your worth, Sarah. You always had it. I’m just lucky enough to stand beside you while the world finally sees it too.”

They got married the following spring in a quiet, beautiful ceremony — no drama, no humiliation.
