Chapter 8 - The Captain's Second Log

Captain Owen Pierce met us at a Coast Guard office.
He had served the Richardson family for eleven years.
He hated Charles.
He feared Eleanor.
He pitied Julian.
He trusted none of them.
“I started the second log after Mr. Richardson asked me to alter fuel invoices.”
“When?”
“Three years ago.”
The private log documented guests.
Cash deliveries.
Meetings aboard the yacht.
Marcus Bell met Charles there after midnight.
So did bankers.
Lawyers.
One pension consultant.
Eleanor hosted people who never appeared on official manifests.
Then Owen showed us the entry from the afternoon I was shoved.
11:40 - E.R. instructs crew to keep aft cameras active despite privacy request.
12:05 - M.B. calls E.R.
12:09 - E.R. says “she’ll react.”
The plan was documented.
Then another line.
15:21 - J.R. asks mother to stop.
I looked at Julian.
He had said nothing publicly.
But he had tried privately.
That did not redeem him.
It made the betrayal more precise.
He knew it was wrong.
He chose a quiet objection that cost him nothing.
Then Owen handed me a small memory card.
“What’s this?”
“Bridge audio.”
The yacht recorded command communications for safety.
Eleanor’s voice.
Charles’s.
Julian’s.
Mine.
Everything.
At 3:25, seconds before she shoved me, Eleanor whispered to Charles.
“Marcus says once she loses her temper, we have leverage.”
Charles laughed.
“Just don’t put her in the water.”
My hand tightened around the card.
He knew.
Maybe not about the shove itself.
But about the setup.
Then Kira found one final recording.
After I signed the foreclosure papers and left, Charles told Eleanor.
“If she finds the pension structure, Julian takes the fall.”
The room went silent.
Julian stood near the window.
He did not cry.
He just said.
“I want everything turned over.”
Owen nodded.
“It already is.”
Then he looked at me.
“There’s something else.”
“What?”
“Mr. Richardson kept a safe behind the chart room.”
Coast Guard officers had not opened it because of warrant limitations.
The government obtained one.
Inside were gold bars.
Passports.
And a handwritten ledger.
Every page began with the same initials.
S.T.
Sovereign Trust.

Someone inside my own banking partner had been taking money from Charles.
