CHAPTER 8: THE ARREST

The police arrived twenty minutes later.
I sat on the front steps of the estate, wrapped in a blanket, watching as Vivian was led away in handcuffs. Her green dress was torn, her hair was a mess, and her eyes were filled with pure hatred.
"This isn't over," she hissed as they passed me. "You think you've won? You've just made everything worse."
"Shut up," the officer said, pushing her forward.
James was arrested an hour later.
He didn't fight. He didn't scream. He just looked at me with empty eyes.
"You're going to regret this, Claire," he said.
"I already regret having you as a brother," I replied.
They took him away.
And I was finally alone.
Sarah sat down beside me.
"Are you okay?"
"I will be."
"What are you going to do now?"
I looked at the folder in my hands.
"I'm going to expose everything. Every dollar they stole. Every life they ruined. Every secret they buried."
"And then?"
I smiled.
"Then I'm going to rebuild. My father's legacy. My family's name. Everything."
May you like
She squeezed my hand.
"You're not doing it alone."
