CHAPTER 2: FORCED TO KNEEL

An hour later, the teasing had become humiliation.
Ryan intentionally handed Jake an empty glass.
"Go refill this."
Jake placed it back on the table.
"I'm not your waiter."
Ryan's face darkened.
"Still acting tough?"
Daniel chuckled.
"Jake, Ryan's trying to help you. Don't be ungrateful."
Jake sighed.
"I don't need anyone's help."
Ryan suddenly stood up.
"You know what? People like you never change."
He shoved Jake.
The room fell silent.
Jake slowly looked at him.
"Don't touch me."
Ryan, drunk and furious, slapped Jake across the face.
Smack!
Several guests gasped.
Jake did not move.
"You just made a serious mistake," he said quietly.
Ryan laughed.
"Oh really? What are you going to do?"
Nobody defended Jake.
Not even Mark and Daniel.
Instead, Mark said softly,
"Jake, just apologize and move on."
Ryan pointed to the floor.
"Kneel and apologize."
Jake stared at him.
"No."
Ryan shoved him again.
"Kneel!"
At that exact moment, a cold voice echoed through the ballroom.
"What is going on here?"
Everyone turned.
An older man in military uniform stood at the entrance.
Colonel Samuel Reed.
Mark and Daniel immediately saluted.
"Sir!"
Samuel ignored them.
His eyes widened when he saw Jake.
Without hesitation, he walked over and gave Jake a perfect military salute.
"General Carter, Sir."
The entire ballroom froze.
Ryan blinked.
"General?"
But Daniel suddenly frowned.
"Wait... wasn't Colonel Reed suspended recently?"
Ryan immediately laughed again.
"Nice try."

The humiliation wasn't over yet.
