Chapter 9 - The Woman in the Blue Dress

Vanessa eventually wrote Grace a letter.

It arrived two years later.

Grace almost threw it away.

Instead, she opened it.

I don't expect forgiveness.

Grace continued reading.

I thought I wanted Ethan. What I really wanted was control. I was terrified of becoming nobody.

Vanessa admitted she had spent years believing wealth meant safety.

It didn't.

She apologized for blaming Grace.

For risking Noah.

For turning fear into cruelty.

Grace folded the letter.

She didn't excuse Vanessa.

But she forgave her.

Not for Vanessa.

For herself.

That evening, Grace told Ethan.

“I think I'm ready to stop carrying that night.”

Ethan took her hand.

“You don't have to carry it anymore.”

May you like

She smiled.

“I know.”
