CHAPTER 14: THE WEDDING

We got married two months later.
It was small, private, exactly what I wanted. Just us, my children, and a few close friends.
Ethan walked me down the aisle.
Ava scattered flowers.
And Daniel looked at me like I was the most beautiful woman in the world.
"I do," I said.
And I meant it.
After the ceremony, we had a small reception in the backyard. My father was there, the one person from my old life I'd been able to trust. He'd never believed the lies about me.
"I'm proud of you," he said.
"Thank you."
"I know what you've been through. You're strong. You always were."
I hugged him.
I was going to be okay.
We were all going to be okay.
That night, Daniel and I sat on the porch, watching the stars.
"Are you happy?" he asked.
"Yes," I said. "I really am."
"Good. Because I want you to be happy forever."
I leaned against his shoulder.
May you like
"Me too," I said.
And it was true.
