CHAPTER 11: THE ALLIANCE
Daniel called his lawyer that night.
"I need you to find everything on Karen Mitchell," he said. "Financial records, communications, connections. Everything."
"It's already done," I said. "I've been collecting evidence for three years."
He looked at me. "You have?"
"I have a file. Everything she's ever done. Every lie, every manipulation, every crime. I just need someone to help me use it."
Daniel smiled. It was the first time I'd seen him truly smile.
"You have someone," he said. "You have me."
The next morning, we met with Daniel's lawyer, Peter, and laid everything out.
Karen's financial fraud. Her embezzlement. Her affair with my husband. Her lies about my husband's death.
"This is enough to destroy her," Peter said. "But it's also enough to destroy your brother, Daniel."
"Richard is already destroyed," Daniel said. "He's been helping Karen for years. He knows what she's done."
"So we go after both of them?"
"Yes. We go after all of them."
I looked at Daniel.
"Are you sure?"
"I've never been more sure of anything."
We filed the first motion that afternoon.
