Chapter 18 - Julian’s Final Message
Julian wrote Arthur once.
Not an apology.
A request.
He wanted Arthur to support his early-release petition.
Arthur declined.
Then Julian sent another letter.
This one different.
You always thought Vanessa chose me because I understood her.
She chose me because I told her everything she wanted was reasonable.
You told people no.
I told them yes.
That made me attractive.
Arthur reread the line.
Then understood something uncomfortable.
He had spent years believing Julian stole Vanessa.

Vanessa chose.
Julian chose.
Arthur was neither owner nor victim of every decision.
