SHE STOOD UP FOR A DELIVERY DRIVER — THEN THE WHOLE CITY FOUND OUT WHO HE REALLY WAS
PART 1: THE PACKAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The slap echoed through the lobby.
Every conversation stopped.
Every head turned.
A small cardboard package hit the marble floor and slid across the polished tiles.
Emily Carter froze.
She had been waiting in line at the reception desk when it happened.
A wealthy man in a tailored suit stood over a delivery driver.
The driver's face was red.
A handprint was visible on his cheek.
"You idiot!" the customer shouted.
"Do you have any idea what's inside that package?"
The delivery driver bent down quickly.
"I'm sorry, sir."
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
"I said I'm sorry."
The man grabbed him by the collar.
"Sorry doesn't fix anything!"
Nobody moved.
Not the receptionist.
Not the security guard.
Not the dozens of people watching.
Because everyone recognized the customer.
Victor Hale.
A real-estate developer worth hundreds of millions.
The kind of man who could get people fired with a single phone call.
The kind of man nobody wanted to challenge.
Emily looked around.
Nobody was helping.
Nobody.
The delivery driver was probably in his late fifties.
Gray hair.
Tired eyes.
His uniform looked old.
Worn.
His hands shook slightly.
Yet he never fought back.
Victor shoved him again.
"You people are all the same."
Something inside Emily snapped.
"Hey!"
The lobby went silent.
Victor slowly turned around.
"What?"
Emily stepped forward.
"You can't treat people like that."
A few people gasped.
The delivery driver looked horrified.
Victor laughed.
"You know who I am?"
"No."
"And I don't care."
The entire lobby practically stopped breathing.
Nobody talked to Victor Hale that way.
Nobody.
Victor's smile disappeared.
"You should mind your own business."
Emily crossed her arms.
"Maybe you should stop bullying someone who can't fight back."
The delivery driver quietly whispered:
"Miss, please..."
But Emily wasn't backing down.
Victor pointed toward the package.
"He damaged property worth fifty thousand dollars."
Emily looked down.
The package was intact.
Nothing appeared broken.
"You don't even know that."
Victor stepped closer.
His voice became dangerous.
"You just made a very big mistake."
Emily felt her heart pounding.
But she refused to move.
Finally, Victor snatched the package from the floor.
"This isn't over."
Then he stormed toward the elevators.
The moment he disappeared, the tension vanished.
People immediately started talking again.
Like nothing had happened.
The delivery driver sighed heavily.
"You shouldn't have done that."
Emily shrugged.
"He was being a jerk."
The man actually smiled.
For the first time.
A warm smile.
One that somehow didn't match the tired uniform.
"You have no idea who that man is."
"Apparently rich."
The driver laughed.
Then extended his hand.
"Daniel."
"Emily."
His handshake felt surprisingly firm.
Confident.
Not like someone afraid of losing a delivery job.
"You really don't know who Victor Hale is?" he asked.
"Nope."
Daniel shook his head.
"I almost envy you."
Emily laughed.
"Trust me. My life has enough problems already."
That caught his attention.
"What kind of problems?"
Emily immediately regretted saying it.
But somehow the words came out anyway.
"My mom's medical bills."
Daniel's expression softened.
"My dad passed away years ago. It's just me and her."
"I'm sorry."
Emily forced a smile.
"I'll figure it out."
People always said that.
Most of the time they were lying.
Daniel studied her for a moment.
Then nodded.
"I think you will."
His phone suddenly buzzed.
A strange expression crossed his face.
Almost concern.
Almost urgency.
"I have to go."
Emily smiled.
"Try not to get slapped again."
Daniel laughed.
Then walked toward the exit.
But before stepping outside, he turned around.
"Emily?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you."
Something about the way he said it felt different.
Meaningful.
As if he wasn't thanking her for defending him.
As if he was thanking her for something much bigger.
Emily watched him leave.
Then she headed home.
She never noticed the black SUV parked across the street.
She never noticed the men inside.
And she definitely never noticed what happened next.
The moment Daniel stepped outside, four security agents surrounded him.
One opened the SUV door.
Another handed him a phone.
Daniel's entire posture changed.
The tired delivery driver vanished.
In his place stood someone powerful.
Someone dangerous.
Someone used to being obeyed.
A voice came through the phone.
"Mr. Reynolds, we found the leak."
Daniel's eyes hardened instantly.
"What about Hale?"
"He's involved."
Daniel looked back toward the building where Emily had disappeared.
For a long moment, he said nothing.
Then he gave an order.
The kind of order that could destroy careers.
The kind of order that could send powerful men to prison.
"Start the investigation."
There was a pause.
"And the woman?"
Daniel glanced toward the lobby doors.
A faint smile appeared.
"Make sure nobody touches her."
Because Emily Carter had no idea who she had just defended.
The delivery driver wasn't a delivery driver.
He was Daniel Reynolds.
Founder and majority owner of the largest logistics company in America.
And for the past six months...
He had been working undercover.
