Chapter 2: The Fall From The Balcony
Chapter 2: The Fall From The Balcony
Three nights later, I nearly died.
The charity gala was supposed to celebrate my appointment.
Instead, it became a crime scene.
I stood on the balcony overlooking the city.
Trying to escape the endless fake smiles.
The endless congratulations.
The endless jealousy.
Then I heard footsteps behind me.
I turned.
Nobody.
Strange.
Then suddenly—
A hand slammed into my back.
Hard.
The world disappeared.
The balcony railing vanished beneath me.
I was falling.
Twenty stories.
Certain death.
Then another hand grabbed my wrist.
At the last possible second.
Pain exploded through my shoulder.
I looked up.
A man I'd never seen before was hanging over the railing.
Holding me.
Barely.
"Hold on!"
Security alarms exploded throughout the building.
People screamed.
The man pulled me up.
Both of us collapsed onto the balcony floor.
Breathing hard.
Alive.
Barely.
Security rushed in.
Guests followed.
Then my cousin Victor appeared.
Looking shocked.
Too shocked.
Almost rehearsed.
The stranger stood.
Pointed directly at Victor.
And said something nobody expected.
"He's not your biggest problem."
Everyone froze.
Victor looked confused.
"So who is?"
The stranger stared at the crowd.
Then pointed toward someone else.
May you like
My uncle Richard.
The room exploded.
