Chapter 3: The Secret Son

Chapter 3: The Secret Son

Nobody slept that night.

The police questioned everyone.

The media surrounded the mansion.

And the mysterious stranger refused to leave.

His name was Daniel Cross.

Former military intelligence.

Former security consultant.

Former employee of my grandfather.

I sat across from him in the library.

"Why did my grandfather hire you?"

Daniel looked uncomfortable.

"He didn't hire me."

"What?"

"He was my father."

The room went silent.

I stared.

Unable to process the words.

"What?"

Daniel nodded.

"My mother worked for the Sterling family thirty-five years ago."

My stomach dropped.

No.

No way.

Daniel continued.

"Arthur Sterling was my biological father."

The room felt smaller.

Hotter.

Dangerous.

Then everything suddenly made sense.

Why he knew so much.

Why he appeared that night.

Why he saved me.

He wasn't protecting an heir.

He was protecting family.

But Daniel wasn't finished.

"There is something else."

Of course there was.

There always was.

He slid a folder across the table.

Inside were surveillance photographs.

Bank records.

Private meetings.

Secret transactions.

All connected to one person.

Uncle Richard.

I looked up.

Daniel nodded grimly.

"Your uncle has been stealing from the company for fifteen years."

The room spun.

Then came the worst part.

Daniel pointed at one photograph.

A meeting.

Late at night.

With criminals.

Professional criminals.

My blood ran cold.

Because beside Richard sat Victor.

My cousin.

May you like

The same cousin who hated me.

The same cousin who stood to inherit everything if I died.
