CHAPTER 15: THE FUTURE

I stood on the porch of my new house.

The sun was setting.

My father was inside, cooking dinner.

My grandmother was in the garden, planting flowers.

Peter was playing with his dog.

My husband was on the phone, arranging a surprise for my birthday.

I had everything I had ever wanted.

A family.

A home.

A purpose.

And I had earned it.

I smiled.

The future was bright.

Because I had finally found what I had been looking for my whole life.

Not revenge.

Not justice.

Not even closure.

May you like

Just peace.

And that was the greatest gift of all.
