CHAPTER 10: THE CONFRONTATION

I went to see Charles Blackwell.

He was at his office. Behind his desk. Looking like a king on his throne.

"Sophie," he said. "I've been expecting you."

"Have you?"

"I know you've been digging into my past. I know you've been talking to Eleanor. I know about the DNA test."

"So you know the truth."

"Yes."

"Then you know I'm your daughter."

"Yes."

"Then why did you abandon me?"

He laughed.

"Abandon you? I never abandoned you. I was protecting you."

"Protecting me from what?"

"From yourself. You're not like me, Sophie. You're weak. Soft. You don't have what it takes to be a Blackwell."

"I don't want to be a Blackwell."

"Then why are you here?"

"To tell you that I'm going to take you down."

He laughed again.

"Take me down? You can't even stand up to Ethan."

"Watch me."

I walked out of the office.

May you like

And I knew, in that moment, that I had just started a war.
