CHAPTER 14: THE PEACE

It's been five years since Mark's letter.

Lily is in college now, studying psychology. She's doing well, making friends, living her life.

I'm still married to David. He's been a wonderful stepfather to Lily, and I've found peace in our relationship.

My business is doing well. I've started a foundation to help women who've been through domestic abuse.

I'm happy.

And that's enough.

One evening, I was sitting on the porch, watching the sunset, when David came out and sat beside me.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

"I'm thinking about how far I've come."

"Me too."

"I'm glad I met you."

"Me too."

He took my hand.

May you like

"We're going to be okay."

"Yes," I said. "We are."
