CHAPTER 13: THE LEGACY

I started a foundation in Garrett's name.
It was called The Garrett Fund.
Its mission was to help seniors who had been isolated, abandoned, or forgotten. We provided housing, support, and community to people who had nowhere else to go.
Catherine and Mark helped me run it. They threw themselves into the work, honoring their father's legacy in ways I had never expected.
The foundation grew. It became my life's work.
And every time I saw someone's life change for the better, I thought of Garrett.
I thought of the boy who walked me home in the rain.
I thought of the man who gave me a diamond ring fifty-three years later.
I thought of the husband who made sure I was taken care of, even after he was gone.
May you like
He had given me everything.
And I was determined to give it back.
