CHAPTER 11: THE LETTERS

I started writing to Garrett.

I wrote every day, telling him about my life, about the house, about the children. I told him about my fears, my hopes, my dreams.

I poured my heart out onto the page.

It was my way of staying connected to him.

I started a journal and filled it with my thoughts. I put it on the nightstand beside my bed, and every night, I wrote to him before I went to sleep.

One morning, I found a note on the nightstand.

It wasn't from Garrett.

It was from Catherine.

Eleanor,

I found your journal. I'm sorry I read it. But I want you to know that I'm glad you wrote it.

It helps me understand how much you loved him.

Thank you for being there for him.

Thank you for being there for us.

Love,

Catherine

I read the note and cried.

May you like

Not tears of sadness.

Tears of gratitude.
