CHAPTER 3: THE FALL

CHAPTER 3: THE FALL

At first, nobody understood what they were watching.

The screen showed a kitchen.

A child.

A dog bowl.

Then Cassandra appeared.

The ballroom fell silent.

Absolute silence.

Guests stared.

Reporters lowered their drinks.

The charity board members stopped breathing.

On the screen, Lily knelt on the floor.

Crying.

"Eat it," Cassandra said.

The recording echoed through the ballroom speakers.

Several people gasped.

Others looked away.

But the footage kept playing.

One clip after another.

One act of cruelty after another.

The woman standing on stage was no longer a philanthropist.

No longer a role model.

No longer admired.

She was exposed.

Completely.

Cassandra's face turned white.

"Marcus, stop this."

Demanded answers.

Board members looked horrified.

One woman stood up.

A mother.

Tears in her eyes.

"That little girl trusted you."

Cassandra's composure finally cracked.

Then Marcus stepped onto the stage.

The ballroom immediately quieted.

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"Three years ago, my daughter lost her mother."

He paused.

"Last month, she almost lost her sense of worth."

Many guests lowered their heads.

Some were crying.

Marcus looked directly at Cassandra.

"You didn't just hurt a child."

His jaw tightened.

"You taught her to believe she deserved it."

The words hit harder than any scream.

Police officers entered through the ballroom doors.

Cassandra saw them.

And knew.

It was over.

The perfect image.

The perfect reputation.

The perfect future.

Gone.

As officers approached, she turned toward Marcus one last time.

"You're destroying my life."

Marcus looked at her without emotion.

"No."

A long pause.

"You destroyed it yourself."

The handcuffs clicked.

And for the first time...

Cassandra had no audience left to impress.

May you like
