Chapter 5 – Home at Last

Two years later, the mansion no longer felt cold.

It felt like home.

Laughter echoed through the halls.

Family movie nights replaced business meetings.

Richard never missed another school recital.

One sunny afternoon, he found Sophie sitting in the kitchen, happily making peanut butter sandwiches.

She looked up with a grin.

"Dad... I made one for you."

Richard took a bite.

"It tastes perfect."

Sophie giggled.

"It's just peanut butter."

"No," he said softly. "It tastes like freedom."

She walked over and slipped her small hand into his.

"I used to think home was the place I was most scared of."

Richard squeezed her hand.

"And now?"

She smiled with complete certainty.

"Now home is wherever you're with me."

Richard pulled her into a warm embrace, grateful for the second chance he had almost lost.

For the first time in many years, neither of them was haunted by fear.
