I ran.
Straight to the hospital.
Straight to the doctor who signed the death certificate.
He didn’t even look surprised when I burst into his office.
“You need to calm down, Mrs. Hale.”
“MY HUSBAND IS ALIVE.”
He sighed.
“Ma’am… we confirmed cardiac arrest.”
“I HEARD HIM.”
That made him pause.
Just for a second.
Then he leaned back.
“That’s impossible.”
I slammed my phone on his desk.
Audio recording.
Knocking.
His voice.
Silence filled the room.
The doctor frowned.
“That recording could be anything.”
“Anything?” I laughed. “He’s inside a coffin!”
That made him stop.
Finally.
He stood up slowly.
“Where is the coffin now?”
“Home.”
He grabbed his coat immediately.
“Take me there.”
Something in his voice changed.
