PART 3: THE MAN WHO LOST IT ALL
The ambulance arrived. As the paramedics helped me onto the stretcher, Ryan tried to follow.
Security — men my father had quietly placed around the house for months — blocked his path.
“You’re not going anywhere near her,” one of them said.
Ryan’s eyes were desperate. “This is my house! My child!”
“Not anymore,” my father replied. “The house was bought with trust money. The car is in her name. Even the company you ‘run’ has been majority-owned by my family since the beginning.”
Linda stood frozen at the top of the stairs, realizing too late that the “poor daughter-in-law” she had bullied for years was actually the heir to one of the city’s oldest fortunes.
As they wheeled me out, Ryan ran after the stretcher, crying.
“Claire! I’m sorry! Don’t do this!”
I looked at him one last time.
“You filmed me falling while I was carrying your child,” I whispered. “Now the whole world is going to watch you fall.”
My father closed the ambulance door.
