Chapter 12 - THREE PEOPLE, THREE TRUTHS
Walter put Raymond on speaker.
Margaret did not flinch.
Raymond accused her of arranging Thomas's disappearance.
Margaret accused Raymond of protecting Voss.
Michael shouted at both.
Daniel finally slammed his fist against the table.
"Everybody stop."
They did.
He was the youngest person in the room.
For once, that helped.
"Nobody gets to tell the whole story anymore."
Daniel separated claims from facts.
Thomas survived.
Voss assumed his identity.
June knew eventually.
Walter signed a false death report without verifying bodies.
Margaret helped hide Thomas.
Raymond carried the withdrawal order.
Everything else required proof.
Walter looked at Daniel with something close to respect.
They listened to more tapes.
Thomas admitted Margaret helped him disappear because he asked her to.
He did not trust official channels.
That cleared one accusation.
Then Thomas described Raymond.
"Raymond tried to get me out twice."
Walter looked up.
Raymond had not abandoned Thomas willingly.
But another tape complicated it.
"On the third attempt, Raymond stopped answering."
Why?
A payment record in the box showed Raymond received $40,000 in 1983 from a defense contractor linked to Voss.
Raymond claimed it was a relocation payment.
Walter did not know whom to believe.
Then Emily called.
She had kept digging into Harrison's footage.
The elderly man who delivered Walter's warning had returned after they left.
This time the camera caught his face.
Emily sent the image.
Margaret dropped the phone.
Michael whispered:
"That's him."
Walter stared at the elderly face.
Scar along the left jaw.
Robert Voss.
The man who had lived as Thomas Bennett.
The man Michael had called Dad.
