CHAPTER 2: THE CHILD WHO LOOKED LIKE HIM
CHAPTER 2: THE CHILD WHO LOOKED LIKE HIM
Marcus couldn’t sleep that night.
He stayed in a cheap motel, staring at the ceiling like it might explain everything.
Five years married.
Five years erased.
And that kid…
No way that was coincidence.
The next morning, Marcus went back.
But this time, he wasn’t a soldier.
He was careful.
Watching.
Waiting.
He followed Evan’s car to an elite private school in the city.
When Evan got out, the boy from the car ran toward him.
“Dad!”
Marcus felt his stomach drop.
Dad.
Evan knelt, fixing the boy’s jacket.
“Did you eat breakfast, champ?”
The boy nodded.
Marcus stepped out from behind a pillar.
“Hey.”
Evan turned sharply.
“Are you serious right now?”
Marcus ignored him.
He looked at the kid.
“What’s your name?”
The boy hesitated.
“…Noah.”
Marcus’s chest tightened.
Noah.
The name Marcus and Lena had once chosen for their future son.
Evan stepped between them.
“You need to stop this.”
Marcus whispered, “That’s my kid.”
Evan laughed.
“That’s my son.”
Marcus shook his head.
“No. He looks like me.”
Evan leaned in.
“Lots of people look alike.”
But Marcus noticed something else.
The boy was watching him closely.
Curious.
Not afraid.
Like something inside him recognized Marcus too.
Before Marcus could say more, security grabbed his arm.
“You’re trespassing.”
As he was dragged away, the boy suddenly spoke:
“…Why do I feel like I know you?”
Marcus froze.
Evan tightened his grip on the boy’s shoulder.
“Come on, Noah.”
But the boy didn’t move.
He kept staring at Marcus.
And then whispered something that made Marcus’s blood turn cold:
“Mom… used to cry at night saying your name.”
May you like
Evan went completely still.
