THE NIGHT I TOOK BACK MY LIFE / Chapter 2 / 2 2

PART 3: THE HUSBAND WHO BECAME NOBODY

I was waiting in the underground parking lot when they escorted him down.

Daniel’s tie was loose, hair messy, eyes wild with panic and rage. When he saw me standing beside my father’s car, he froze.

“Claire… what the hell did you do?”

I stepped forward, voice calm.
“I did what you should’ve expected the day you started sleeping with your secretary in my bed.”

He tried to laugh, but it came out broken. “This is my company. My name is on everything!”

“Not anymore,” I said quietly. “My father never gave you the company, Daniel. He lent it. And tonight, I called in the loan.”

My father stood silently behind me, watching.

Daniel’s voice cracked. “Claire, please. We can fix this. I love you—”

“You loved my last name,” I cut him off. “You loved the money. You loved the power. And now you have none of it.”

Security began guiding him toward a waiting car — not the luxury one he usually drove, but a plain black SUV.

As they put him inside, he looked back at me one last time, face pressed against the window like a stranger.

I didn’t wave. I didn’t smile. I simply turned to my father.

“Let’s go home.”

The car door closed. Daniel’s empire — the one he built on my family’s name and my silence — was no longer his.

Some men think they marry a trophy wife.
They never realize she might be the daughter of the man who can take it all away with one phone call.
