Chapter 20: The Meatpacking Gamble

Chapter 20: The Meatpacking Gamble

The warehouse smelled of rusted iron and old blood—a fitting venue for the end of an era. Eleanor stepped out of the shadows, her crimson dress traded for a tactical trench coat, a silhouette of vengeance against the backdrop of industrial grit.

Elias Thorne stood in the center of the floor, surrounded by a dozen men who didn't look like financiers. They looked like mercenaries. Thorne was holding a dossier—his last leverage.

"You look tired, Eleanor," Thorne taunted, his composure crumbling, revealing the trembling rage beneath. "You think you won? I have hard copies. Encrypted drives that don't need the internet. I have enough to bury you, your son, and everyone you’ve ever touched."

"Then why are you holding a meeting in a warehouse?" Eleanor walked forward, her heels clicking against the concrete like a countdown. "Because you have nowhere else to go. The banks have frozen your assets. Your partners have cut you off. You are invisible, Elias."

"I am a ghost!" Thorne screamed. "And ghosts can haunt!"

He signaled his men. The air erupted into chaos. Julian moved with the fluidity of water, tackling the first attacker before he could even draw his weapon. Eleanor didn't flinch. She pulled a compact pistol from her holster, her aim precise, cold, and final.

The firefight was short, violent, and messy. But as the smoke cleared, Eleanor walked over to where Thorne was scrambling for a briefcase. She stepped on his hand, not with malice, but with a terrifying indifference.

"The tragedy of your life, Elias," she whispered, leaning down, "is that you thought you were the one writing the story. You were just a prop."
