CHAPTER 3 — THE THING THEY ALL FORGOT

CHAPTER 3 — THE THING THEY ALL FORGOT

Sarah went digging.

Old photos.

Old emails.

Old hospital records.

What she found didn’t make sense at first.

Then everything collapsed.

There was no miscarriage.

Because Sarah had never been pregnant.

But Emma had.

Twenty years ago.

Before Sarah even met Mark.

And Mark…

He was there.

Not as a husband.

As someone else.

A man named “Michael.”

A name he never told her.

Sarah drove straight home.

The house felt different.

Too quiet.

She opened the door.

Mark was waiting.

Emma was there too.

So was Lily.

All of them.

Sarah whispered, “Tell me the truth.”

Silence.

Then Emma spoke.

“You were never supposed to find out.”

Sarah looked at Mark. “Who are you?”

Mark exhaled shakily.

“My real name isn’t Mark.”

A pause.

“I changed it after what happened twenty years ago.”

Sarah stepped back. “What happened?”

Lily started crying again.

Emma whispered:

“The child I carried back then… wasn’t mine.”

Sarah’s voice broke. “Whose was it?”

Mark looked at her.

And said:

“Yours.”

The room went silent.

Sarah shook her head. “No… that’s impossible.”

Emma nodded slowly. “You gave birth twenty years ago. Then something happened. You forgot.”

Sarah’s phone buzzed one last time.

Unknown number:

“Now you know why I exposed everything.”

And as she looked around the room…

She realized.

Someone in that house had been lying for two decades.

May you like

And the betrayal had never started with Mark.

It started with her own memory.
