Chapter 8 - We Got Married—And Finally Found Peace**
Our wedding was small.
Intimate.
Just close friends and family.
We got married in the garden of the townhouse, surrounded by flowers and the people we loved most.
Dante’s sister stood as his matron of honor.
My best friend from college was my bridesmaid.
Clara cried through the whole ceremony.
Dante looked more handsome than I had ever seen him.
He wore a dark suit, his hair combed back, his eyes never leaving me as I walked down the aisle.
He cried when he said his vows.
I cried too.
We both promised to love each other, to protect each other, to stand by each other through everything.
When the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, Dante kissed me like I was the only thing in the world that mattered.
And in that moment, I was.
The reception was full of laughter and music and joy.
Dante danced with me, holding me close, whispering how much he loved me in my ear.
He danced with Clara, making her laugh so hard she could barely stand.
He even danced with my grandmother, who had flown in from out of state and immediately adored him.
That night, after all the guests had left, we stood together in the quiet garden.
Dante held me from behind, his arms wrapped around my waist, his chin resting on my shoulder.
“Mrs. Moretti,” he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice.
“I like the sound of that.”
I leaned back against him, my hand covering his where it rested on my stomach.
“I like it too.”
We stayed there for a long time, watching the stars.
I thought about everything that had led us to this moment.
The gala.
The kiss.
Nolan’s cruelty.
Dante’s protection.
The fear, the pain, the hope, the love.
It had been a long, hard road.
But it had led me here.
To this man.
To this life.
To this happiness.
And I wouldn’t change a single thing.
