Chapter 10 - This Is Where Our Story Ends—And Our Happily Ever After Begins**

Ten years after that night at the gala.
I stood in the garden of our home, watching our children play.
Sophia was twelve now, smart and strong and brave, already talking about becoming a lawyer to help people like me.
Anthony was ten, full of energy and kindness, always helping anyone who needed it.
Dante came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist.
He was older now, gray starting to show at his temples, but still the most handsome man I had ever seen.
Still the man I loved more than anything.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Moretti,” he said, kissing my neck.
I turned in his arms, smiling up at him.
“Just thinking about how far we’ve come.”
He nodded, his eyes soft as he looked at our children.
“A long way. From a kiss in a ballroom to this. Who would have thought?”
“Not me,” I admitted.
“I thought I was just escaping one dangerous man that night. I had no idea I was running straight into the arms of the man who would become my whole world.”
Dante cupped my face in his hands.
“You saved me too, Elena. You brought me back to life. You gave me a reason to be better, to do better. I will spend the rest of my life thanking you for that.”
He kissed me, slow and sweet, just like he had on our wedding day.
Sophia made a fake gagging sound, and Anthony laughed.
We pulled apart, smiling at each other.
“Come on, kids!” Dante called out.
“Who wants ice cream?”
Two pairs of feet came running.
Sophia grabbed Dante’s hand, Anthony grabbed mine, and we all walked toward the house together.
The sun was setting behind us, painting the sky pink and orange and purple.
The air smelled like roses and summer.
The sound of our children’s laughter filled the air.
I looked at the family I had built.
At the man I loved more than life itself.
At the beautiful, perfect life we had created together from pain and fear and loss.
I had come so far from the scared young woman who had kissed a stranger in a ballroom just to survive.
I was strong now.
Confident.
Loved.
Safe.
And as we walked into the house together, hand in hand, I knew one thing for certain.
Sometimes the best things in life come from the most unexpected moments.
Sometimes the person you think is just another danger turns out to be your salvation.
And sometimes, just sometimes, you get the happily ever after you always deserved.
Our story had begun with fear and a desperate kiss.
But it ended here.
In love.
In peace.
May you like
In the warm, perfect embrace of family.
And it was only just beginning.
