Chapter 3: The Woman Who Was Never the Wife

A knock came at the door.

Three times.

Slow.

Deliberate.

My husband frowned.

“That’s early.”

Lila checked her phone.

“They’re here.”

My stomach dropped.

“Who’s here?”

The door opened.

A man in a suit walked in.

Followed by two more.

Corporate legal team.

My father’s board representatives.

People I trusted.

I stepped forward.

“What is this?”

The man at the front looked at me.

Politely.

Almost sadly.

“Miss Bennett.”

I froze.

“You’re not supposed to be here,” I said.

He nodded.

“I know.”

Then he looked at my husband.

And said:

“The transfer is complete.”

Silence.

My husband smiled.

“Perfect timing.”

I turned.

“What transfer?”

The lawyer opened a document.

And read:

“Effective upon consummation of marriage…”

My voice broke.

“What consummation?”

Lila smiled softly.

“Not that one.”

A pause.

“Your husband never planned to sleep with you.”

My blood froze.

The lawyer continued:

“He only needed legal confirmation of union conditions.”

My husband added casually:

“Intimacy was never part of the contract.”

I stepped back.

“You’re lying.”

Lila walked toward me.

And whispered:

“You were never the bride.”

She tapped my wedding ring.

“You were the signature.”

My knees weakened.

Then the lawyer said the final line:

“Bennett Holdings is now majority controlled by Vale Consortium.”

My father’s empire.

Gone.

In one night.

My husband picked up his jacket.

Lila took his arm.

And he looked at me one last time.

Not angry.

Not emotional.

Just finished.

“You can stay in the house tonight,” he said.

Then added:

“It’s the last thing you still technically occupy.”

They turned to leave.

I stood there.

In my wedding dress.

In my bedroom.

Watching my life being walked out the door.

But then—

Lila paused.

Turned back.

And said softly:

“Oh… one more thing.”

She smiled.

“You weren’t chosen randomly.”

My breath stopped.

She leaned closer.

And whispered the final twist:

“You were selected because your father already sold you ten years ago.”

May you like
