Chapter 15: The Wedding That Never Was

Three months later.
We stood in the same garden where the reception was supposed to be—but this time, it was different. No chandeliers, no champagne pyramids, no five hundred judging eyes. Just family, a few friends, and the sun shining bright.
I wore a simple dress. Elias wore the same tux—but he’d taken off the boutonniere Colleen had picked, and replaced it with a single white rose.
He took my hand, and looked me in the eye.
“Clara Bennett,” he said. “I promised your father I’d find you. I promised I’d tell you the truth. And today… I promise I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to hide again.”
When he kissed me, there was no applause, no laughter—just quiet, warm joy.
Some weddings start with a slap. Some start with a lie. But ours started with the truth… and a promise kept.
