CHAPTER 4: THE SECRET RECORDING
Emily sat in the interrogation room for six hours.
Finally, attorney Lisa arrived.
"You've been framed."
"What?"
Lisa placed a USB drive on the table.
"The hidden cameras."
The footage showed Sophia sneaking into the lake house kitchen earlier that day.
Then came audio.
Sophia:
"Once Emily goes to prison, everything becomes ours."
Ryan laughed.
"I can't believe she's still trusting me."
Detectives immediately released Emily.
An arrest warrant was issued for Sophia.
But Sophia had disappeared.
Two days later, Emily received a voicemail.
Sophia was crying.
"Emily... I messed up. Ryan lied to both of us."
Emily froze.
"What are you talking about?"
"Ryan told me you stole money from Dad before he died. He said you hated me."
Emily's heart sank.
Their father had died five years earlier.
Sophia continued sobbing.
"He forged emails. He manipulated me."
Emily whispered, "Where are you?"
Before Sophia could answer, a male voice shouted:
"Who are you talking to?"
