CHAPTER 3: THE TRAP
Emily secretly met with attorney Lisa Monroe.
After hearing everything, Lisa looked horrified.
"You think they're planning to kill you?"
Emily swallowed.
"I don't know. But I'm not taking chances."
Together, they made a plan.
Emily transferred her savings into a protected account.
She changed her will.
She installed hidden cameras throughout the house.
One week later, Ryan surprised her.
"How about a romantic weekend at our lake house?"
Emily forced a smile.
"Sounds wonderful."
That night, hidden camera footage captured Ryan talking on the phone.
"Everything's set," Ryan whispered.
Emily stopped breathing.
Then Ryan said:
"After this weekend, we'll finally be free."
Emily immediately called the police.
But the detective frowned.
"We need evidence of an actual crime."
Emily felt trapped.
Friday arrived.
She packed her bags and drove with Ryan to the lake house.
The entire drive, Ryan looked unusually cheerful.
At dinner, he raised his wine glass.
"To new beginnings."
Emily secretly didn't drink.
An hour later, Ryan collapsed.
Foaming at the mouth.
Emily screamed.
An ambulance arrived.
As paramedics carried Ryan away, police officers turned toward Emily.
