CHAPTER 4 — THE WOMAN WHO REMEMBERS TOO MUCH
The apartment began to glitch.
Walls flickered.
Lights stuttered.
Reality felt unstable.
The man held Elena’s hand.
“You’re waking up too fast.”
Elena whispered:
“Waking up from what?!”
He hesitated.
Then said:
“You didn’t just lose your husband.”
“You lost the timeline where you forgave him.”
Silence.
Elena shook her head.
“I don’t understand any of this!”
The man stepped closer.
“You were supposed to forget everything after the reset.”
“But something stayed.”
---
A second voice echoed from the hallway.
Female.
Calm.
Familiar.
“I always stay.”
Elena turned.
And saw herself.
But different.
Colder.
Fully aware.
The second Elena looked at her and said:
“You weren’t supposed to rebuild him.”
“You were supposed to delete him completely.”
Elena froze.
“…Who are you?”
The second version smiled.
“I’m the one who remembers why you killed him the first time.”
The system voice activated:
“MERGE INITIATED.”
The man whispered:
“It’s happening again.”
May you like
Elena stepped back.
And for the first time… she wasn’t sure which version of herself was real.
