CHAPTER 2 — THE SECOND VERSION OF LOVE

CHAPTER 2 — THE SECOND VERSION OF LOVE

Elena backed away.

“No… I’ve never met you.”

The man nodded slowly.

“That’s what they want you to believe.”

He placed a photo on the table.

Elena.

Holding his hand.

Wearing a wedding ring.

Smiling like she was safe.

She stepped back.

“That’s fake.”

He shook his head.

“It’s not.”

“It’s version one.”

---

Elena grabbed her phone.

“No. I’m calling the police.”

The man didn’t stop her.

He just said:

“They won’t come.”

She froze.

“Why not?”

Because at that exact moment…

Sirens were already outside.

But they weren’t coming in.

They were circling the building.

Like they were containing it.

---

The man sighed.

“I was built to replace him.”

Elena whispered:

“…Replace who?”

He looked at her carefully.

“The husband you killed.”

Silence.

Elena shook her head violently.

“I would never—”

But he interrupted.

May you like

“You did.”

“And I was designed to make sure you never remember why.”
