CHAPTER 4 – “THE NIGHT THE TRUTH WAS EXPOSED”

The blinking device on the floor lit up the entire room.

Red.

Steady.

Alive.

Alejandro stared at it like his mind had stopped working.

“A tracker…” he whispered.

Leticia didn’t move.

In fact, she looked calmer than ever.

“Yes,” she said softly. “Now you understand.”

Valeria stepped back in horror.

“What have you done, Mom?”

Leticia finally exhaled.

A long, tired breath.

Like she had been waiting years for this moment.

“I built this family,” she said. “And I protected it the only way I knew how.”

Alejandro’s voice shook.

“You poisoned my wife.”

Leticia didn’t deny it.

“I controlled her condition,” she corrected.

My heart stopped.

“Controlled?” I repeated.

She nodded.

“The pregnancy was never meant to continue normally.”

Silence filled the room again.

Even Sofía stopped crying.

Alejandro stepped forward.

“You are talking about my child.”

Leticia looked at him.

“No,” she said coldly. “I am talking about an asset.”

That word broke something inside him.

Alejandro grabbed her arm.

“What did you do to Camila?”

For the first time, Leticia looked directly at me without hatred.

Almost… disappointment.

“She was selected,” she said. “Like all the others.”

My stomach turned.

“All the others?”

Leticia walked slowly toward the counter.

Opened a hidden drawer.

And placed a folder on the table.

Photographs.

Medical reports.

Names.

Dozens of women.

All pregnant.

All labeled.

All marked.

Alejandro stared at it.

“This is… illegal,” he whispered.

Leticia smiled faintly.

“No,” she said. “This is history. Just hidden.”

Valeria collapsed into a chair.

“This is insane…”

Alejandro turned back to his mother.

“You tested my wife.”

Leticia nodded.

“For stability. Compatibility. Genetic response.”

My voice broke.

“And if I refused the pills?”

She looked at me.

“You were never supposed to refuse.”

A long silence followed.

Then Alejandro spoke again.

His voice was different now.

Cold.

Final.

“Security is outside,” he said.

Leticia didn’t react.

“I know.”

He nodded.

“And federal agents are on their way.”

Still no reaction.

Then he added:

“I recorded everything.”

That was the first time her expression changed.

Just slightly.

A flicker.

Alejandro continued.

“You confessed on my phone call. You admitted everything.”

Leticia looked at him for a long moment.

Then smiled again.

“You think I didn’t expect that?”

She reached into her pocket.

And placed another device on the table.

A remote.

She pressed it.

The house lights shut off instantly.

Emergency systems activated.

Doors locked.

Metal shutters began sliding over the windows.

Sofía screamed.

“No!” I grabbed her instantly.

Alejandro shouted:

“Everyone stay together!”

But Leticia was already walking away.

Slow.

Calm.

Almost peaceful.

“You think you trapped me,” she said softly. “But I built this system.”

She stopped at the hallway entrance.

Turned back one last time.

And looked at me.

“You were never the wife,” she said.

“You were the key.”

Then she walked out.

And the front gate of the house sealed shut with a mechanical roar.

Alejandro ran toward it.

It wouldn’t open.

He hit it once.

Twice.

Nothing.

Then silence returned.

Inside the locked house.

Alejandro turned to me.

For the first time…

Not as a husband.

Not as a son.

But as someone who finally understood the truth.

May you like

And he said quietly:

“We need to get out of here.”
