MY MOTHER-IN-LAW HIT MY PREGNANT BELLY WHILE MY SISTER-IN-LAW HELD MY ARMS, FORCING ME TO TAKE THE CONTRACEPTIVE PILLS THEY HAD PUT ON THE TABLE. I REFUSED, BUT MY LITTLE DAUGHTER RAN IN, GRABBED THE BOTTLE, AND HID IT IN HER BACKPACK. WHEN MY MULTIMILLIONAIRE HUSBAND WALKED IN, MY MOTHER-IN-LAW DID NOT LOOK AT MY FACE… SHE LOOKED AT THE CHILD’S BACKPACK.
CHAPTER 1 – “THE MOMENT THEY TRIED TO ERASE MY UNBORN CHILD”
She hit my pregnant belly before I even understood what was happening.
One second I was standing in my kitchen.
The next, my body folded in half from a violent blow that stole all the air from my lungs.
“Swallow them.”
My mother-in-law’s voice cut through the pain.
Cold. Controlled. Cruel.
A plastic bottle slammed onto the marble counter.
Dozens of pills rolled inside like a threat I couldn’t escape.
“You are not giving birth in this family unless I say so,” she said.
My sister-in-law, Valeria, twisted my arms behind my back.
“Stop struggling,” she whispered in my ear. “You should be grateful you even married in.”
I gasped.
“My baby… I’m pregnant,” I cried. “You’re hurting your own grandson.”
Leticia laughed.
“That thing is not my grandson yet.”
She stepped closer and grabbed my jaw.
“Open your mouth.”
I shook my head, tears burning my eyes.
“No… please…”
Her grip tightened.
“Do it.”
My vision blurred from pain and fear.
And then—
A voice shattered the room.
“Mom!”
Sofía.
My six-year-old daughter ran into the kitchen.
Barefoot. Crying. Terrified.
“Stop!” she screamed.
Everything froze for half a second.
Then she ran straight to the counter, grabbed the pill bottle, and shoved it into her pink backpack.
“No!” Leticia screamed. “Give that back!”
She raised her hand.
I reacted instantly.
I broke free, stumbling forward, placing my body between them.
“Don’t touch her!” I shouted, shaking. “She’s just a child!”
Valeria grabbed my arm again.
“Move,” she hissed. “You always act like a victim.”
I could feel my baby moving inside me.
I was losing control.
Then—
The front door clicked open.
“Camila? I’m home.”
Alejandro.
My husband.
Everything stopped.
Leticia straightened her blouse instantly.
Valeria let go of me like I was nothing.
Smiles appeared. Calm returned. Masks snapped into place.
I stood there trembling, holding my stomach, my daughter clutching the backpack behind me like it held the truth itself.
Alejandro walked in.
Paused.
His eyes scanned the room.
Then landed on me.
“Camila… what happened to your face?”
I opened my mouth.
Nothing came out.
Leticia stepped forward first.
“Oh, nothing serious,” she said softly. “She got emotional. Pregnancy hormones, you know how it is.”
Valeria nodded.
“She scared Sofía. We were just trying to calm her down.”
Alejandro frowned.
“Camila?”
His voice softened.
“Tell me the truth.”
Silence.
I looked at him.
Then at my daughter.
Then at the backpack hidden behind her small trembling hands.
Leticia’s eyes met mine.
Cold.
Warning.
And in that moment, I understood something terrifying.
If I spoke…
I would not just lose my marriage.
I might lose my daughter too.
Alejandro took one step closer.
“Camila… what really happened in this house?”
And Sofía whispered behind me:
May you like
“Mom…”
“I think they saw me take it.”
