Chapter 3: The Reckoning

Jake stormed into the hospital room where Mia was pretending to look weak.

“You lied to me,” he said, voice shaking with anger. “There’s no baby. You faked everything.”

Mia’s mask finally cracked. “I did it for us! Sophie doesn’t love you the way I do. I’ve waited years for you to see it!”

“You knocked out the woman I love and locked her in a warehouse!” Jake yelled. “That’s not love. That’s obsession.”

Security and police arrived shortly after. Mia was arrested for assault and false imprisonment.

Two days later, in a quiet courthouse ceremony, Jake and I got married — just us, his parents, and my best friend. No big wedding. No drama.

After the ceremony, Jake held me tight.

“I’m so sorry I doubted you even for a second,” he whispered. “I was scared. I thought I was going to be a father and I panicked.”

I kissed him softly. “It’s over now. She can’t hurt us anymore.”

Six months later, we were expecting our first real child. Mia was still facing charges and had lost everything — her reputation, her friendship with Jake, and any chance of getting close to him again.

One evening on our porch, Jake rubbed my growing belly and smiled.

“Best decision I ever made was choosing you,” he said.

I leaned my head on his shoulder. “We chose each other. And that’s what matters.”
