Chapter 1: The Trap
The text from my fiancé’s best friend seemed innocent enough.
Mia: Hey girl, can you meet me at the old warehouse on 5th? Jake left something important there for the wedding. I need your help carrying it.
I should have known better.
The moment I stepped inside the dimly lit warehouse, the heavy metal door slammed shut behind me. I spun around just in time to see Mia standing there, holding a metal pipe.
“Mia? What are you—”
The pipe came down hard on the side of my head. Pain exploded. My vision blurred as I dropped to my knees.
“I’m sorry, Sophie,” Mia said coldly, standing over me. “But Jake deserves better. He deserves me. And this baby.”
She rubbed her perfectly round fake belly under her shirt and smiled.
“You… you’re crazy,” I gasped, fighting to stay conscious. “Jake loves me. We’re getting married in two days—”
“Not anymore,” she cut me off. “By the time he finds you, it’ll be too late. I’ll be his wife… and the mother of his child.”
Darkness swallowed me as she locked the heavy door.
When I woke up, my head was pounding. The warehouse was cold and dark. My phone was gone. I screamed and banged on the door until my fists bled, but no one came.
Hours later, I heard voices outside. The door finally opened.
Jake stood there with wide eyes, looking panicked. Behind him was Mia, fake belly on full display, clinging to his arm with fake tears.
“Sophie?!” Jake rushed forward. “What happened? Mia said you texted her saying you needed space before the wedding—”
Mia cut in sweetly, “I told you, babe. She’s been acting so strange lately. Maybe she doesn’t want to get married after all.”
I looked at Jake, voice hoarse. “She knocked me out, Jake. She locked me in here. She’s faking the pregnancy to trap you!”
Mia gasped dramatically. “How could you say that? I’m carrying your child!”
